Book ?? Of 2019, “Being Christian,” by Rowan Williams is a beautiful little book that so succinctly sums up the practices and lifestyles of what it means to follow Jesus that I just added it to my list of Best Ministry/Leadership Books that I will return to again and again. (Link in bio, code “BEST”).Williams was the archbishop of Canterbury from 2002 to 2012, and his wisdom and earnest heart come through so eloquently and concisely that I wished the book were longer in order to hear more of what he had to say.

However, the fact that this book is short is part of what makes it so great. It isn’t some intimidating tome, filled with theological arguments and debates. Rather, it is four chapters laong, with each chapter focusing on Baptism, the Bible, Communion, and Prayer. When I finished it, I truly felt like I had participated in a master-class on what it looks like to follow Jesus and takes his words seriously.

You should probably go buy this book. In fact, buy a couple copies so that you can hand them out as gifts. It’s that good. And, coming in at just 82 pages, no one would be scared away from reading it, even those who don’t consider themselves “readers.”
